Guiping Yan

Research Associate

I am conducting molecular studies related to root diseases of wheat. My duties in the plant pathology program at CBARC include developing and optimizing molecular procedures to identify and quantify root-lesion nematodes and cereal cyst nematodes from pure nematode cultures, plant tissue and soil. My duties also include developing the molecular research program to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in wheat for tolerance and resistance to these nematodes and also to the fungi associated with Fusarium crown rot and common root rot. I am also utilizing molecular markers in the process of marker-assisted selection, with the goal of improving genetic resistance of wheat by introgressing genes for resistance into PNW-adapted wheat varieties.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

I spend most of my spare time playing with my eleven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter. I also spend time taking care of a variety of plants in the garden. I enjoy being together with friends to share fine food. I like to travel to as many places as I can, to enjoy beautiful scenes in the world.
